If the Windows Live ID Password Recovery tool does not work, you can
try resetting your password. Go to https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx,
enter your Windows Live ID (or Hotmail address) and characters shown on
the picture. Click "Continue" button.
You will be given two options to reset Windows Live password:
Method A: Send password reset instructions to me in e-mail.
This method is good when you used additional email address when registering
your Windows Live ID. Provided you have access to the email address that
you used when registering, go ahead and use this method:
- If you selected "Send password reset instructions to me in
e-mail", you will see the email address that the reset instructions
will be sent to
- Click on "Continue" button
- You will see a message "Password reset instructions sent"
- Now is the time to check the inbox of the email address that the reset
instructions were sent to
- Open the link that you received in that email and you will see a page
like this:

- Enter your Windows Live ID and type in your new password twice.
- Click on the "Continue" button
- You will be asked to enter an alternative e-mail address twice but
you can leave that blank if you wish
- Click on "Continue" or "Skip" button depending
on whether you opted to enter an alternative e-mail address or not
- You will see a message saying "You have changed your password"
- That's it! You have just successfully reset your Windows Live
password.
Method B: Provide account information and answer your secret question.
- Click on the link "Provide account information and answer
your secret question"
- You will need to fill in your Country or Region (if asked, also provide
ZIP code or postal code) and the answer to your secret question
- Once this is done, click Continue
- Type in your new password and confirm it, and then click Continue
- Click Done.
Your Windows Live password should now be reset (i.e. you
should have set the new Windows Live password).
